The Alberta SuperNet is a 13,000 kilometer, high-speed, fibre
and wireless broadband network. It links government offices, schools,
health-care facilities and libraries in 429 communities across
Alberta and allows them to share information and deliver services
at incredible speeds. The Government of Alberta provided significant
funding to build this telecommunications net
work in rural and urban
communities.
The APLEN SuperNet Project assists
public libraries with connectivity and utilization of the Alberta
SuperNet. The APLEN SuperNet has ongoing funding from Municipal Affairs to enable libraries to connect to the SuperNet.
As of February 2006, 185 libraries have completed their migration to the SuperNet with the help of their regional library systems. These libraries now have access to
