Canadian Library Month
October 2007
The Alberta Library was proud to be a part of Canadian Library Month
which was held during the entire month of October 2007.
The theme of Libraries: the world at your
fingertips illustrates
the variety of programs and services libraries provide. Special events
were planned to celebrate libraries and to highlight the contribution
they make to the people of Alberta.
Linking Project
2005
With the proliferation of electronic
products and their confusing array of different interfaces, users are
now pushing for a straightforward means of linking seamlessly from
one product to another. Librarians have recognized this need for some
time, both as a means of easing our users' difficulties, and as a means
of increasing the use of these electronic products.
The benefits of a link resolver must then be weighed against the
cost of the product and the amount of staff time required to set
it up and to maintain it. The financial and staffing costs, and
how these might be apportioned between The Alberta Library and
the participating libraries, are information to be determined from
the The Alberta Library Linking Project -- a feasibility study
intended to determine what it would be possible for The Alberta
Library to do, and to then make recommendations on how The Alberta
Library should proceed.
